Allows for maximum load from a specified device (i.e. a physical drive or RAID array) by performing sustained reads with caching disabled to a raw device from a small (configurable) number of sectors. By defeating caching, all I/Os come off of the physical drive, achieving very high busloads, particularly in configurations with multiple disk controllers in PCI/PCI-X/PCI-E slots, in parallel when executed on SMP systems.
